ANTIQUE PERCUSSION SHOTGUN- Circa 1850 -60

A very good, clean example of a Percussion muzzle loading sporting gun of the mid 19th Century. 29 inch double barrels of 12 -14 bore . Short, back action locks with twin hammers with tightly curved top sections. Lock plates are finely engraved with a 'horn of plenty' design. Barrel tang, trigger guard and ram rod tube all finely engraved with geometric and floral designs. Stock with semi pistol grip and raised cheek piece. Fine sectional line where this has been added (?) at the time of it's manufacture. Chequered fore end section, plain brass butt plate. Wooden ram rod with copper tip. Overall 47 inches in length and in good, clean condition with a very fine surface patina to the barrels and very light surface pitting ( not deep) to the lock plates. Minor bruising to the woodwork, NO splits or cracks. I am unsure as to the origin of this piece as there are no maker's or proof marks visible although there may be such under the barrel but I have not removed it from the stock. The engraving suggests English make, the style of the butt suggests that it is European. Overall in Grade 8+ condition. NO licence required as this is a certified antique, muzzle loading weapon sold as an ornament or curio. However this item is NOT available for overseas sales.
